766 Great Suffolk St, London, SE1 0BL

William Rhodes' work was shown in Threaded Memories at the Afrika Centre in London in 2025. In addition to the exhibition the Center hosted the creation of a Community Knotted Quilt, a cross-continental collaboration involving communities from San Francisco and London. Through a series of hands-on quilt workshops, participants designed their own fabric squares each telling a personal or cultural story. These were be knotted together to form a single collective quilt, symbolizing shared experience, memory, and creative resistance.

FORMS, FLESH, FRAME - FIGURE SHOW

December 7, 2024 - January 26, 2025
Reception December 7th, 2024, 4:00 - 6 PM
The theme of this juried show broadly concerns the human figure. This “figuration” can literally portray the human form, in any size, shape, sex or situation to the essence or abstraction of the figure. The juror will be seeking humanity in the “human form”. This can be represented in a wide range media: drawing, mixed media, printmaking, collage or sculpture. As depicted over centuries, the gamut of emotion, expressivity, individualism and physicality to be found in the figure is endless. What is out there in contemporary figuration now? What messages and stories through depictions exploring the human form are relevant, fresh, timeless, surprising and challenging today?

On October 12th, Najee Strickland  unveiled Blue Gold at Transmission Gallery, a new collection of designs crafted from recycled denim.: Heroic Trench, Weight of the world duffle bag, oversized denim jacket, Denim Crop bubble coat, denim bikini top and bottom.

Blue Gold explores the complex issues of the fast fashion industry—its reliance on plastics and toxic chemicals, the impact of discarded clothing in places like Ghana, and the healing potential of 100% cotton on the human body. The collection is a statement on sustainability, aiming to inspire awareness and change in the way we view and wear our clothes.
Incorporating Adinkra symbols—visual representations of concepts, proverbs, and aphorisms—this collection pays homage to their origins among the Gyaman people of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Historically, these symbols adorned the clothing worn by royalty during significant ceremonies. Today, they transcend their cultural roots, appearing in logos, fashion, furniture, architecture, and more. This evolution reflects their global significance and the recognition of their rich cultural heritage.
