Recent Compositions in Concrete, Steel and Glass
January 5 - February 18, 2023
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 14th, 1-4pm

Transmission Gallery is pleased to present Danny Rosales' solo exhibition, Recent Compositions in Concrete, Steel and Glass.

Rosales' installation pieces and wall mounted works explore balance and relationship through the combination of three basic construction materials. Fabricated with exacting detail, while allowing for chance interactions, the work speaks to a fundamental appreciation of structural elegance and the strength inherent in concrete, steel and glass.

More about Danny Rosales
Statement
I work with materials used for fabrication; concrete, steel, and glass. These materials, found in our everyday surroundings, have their unique properties: roughness, strength, and delicacy. I enjoy the interplay between the delicate transparency, the smooth strength, and the opaque roughness. Working with only three materials is like a dance; finding balance, rhythm, repetition, and movement.

Bio
As a small child, my Brother and I would spend summers visiting relatives in Los Angeles.
During our stay, we would often drive past the scrap steel-yards of Compton, a city situated south of downtown. Always intrigued by the huge piles of rusted and twisted metal shapes, I was equally fascinated by the old rusted equipment that moved debris from place to place. At times I would be able to spot an old car, recognize an appliance of some kind, as well as other objects from a different era; just before they were crushed and hauled away by the freight trains. In the nearby Watts Community stands “The Watts Towers”, which are a collection of 17 sculptural structures. I have since come to realize that it is considered an excellent example Outsider Art, but then I was just puzzled. I asked my uncle “What’s that?” and he said, “Some crazy old man was trying to build a tower to the clouds.” The thought of someone building their own tower to the sky with scrapes of rusted steel was amazing, and that concept has captured my imagination ever since.
