Special Art + Style Event:  October 12th, 2024

Najee Strickland

Blue Gold

In collaboration with Oakland Art Murmur and Transmission Gallery, Najee strickland premiered Blue Gold, a unique collection of wearable art, in Oakland, CA.
Heroic Trench, Weight of the world duffle bag, oversized denim jacket, Denim Crop bubble coat, denim bikini top and bottom, and plants—-ALL 100% cotton

BLUE GOLD

Blue Gold explores the complex issues of the fast fashion industry—its reliance on plastics and toxic chemicals, the impact of discarded clothing in places like Ghana, and the healing potential of 100% cotton on the human body. This collection is a statement on sustainability, aiming to inspire awareness and change in the way we view and wear our clothes.

Incorporating Adinkra symbols—visual representations of concepts, proverbs, and aphorisms—this collection pays homage to their origins among the Gyaman people of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Historically, these symbols adorned the clothing worn by royalty during significant ceremonies. Today, they transcend their cultural roots, appearing in logos, fashion, furniture, architecture, and more. This evolution reflects their global significance and the recognition of their rich cultural heritage.
